Chinese enterprises maintain strong innovation vitality

At the meeting, Shen Changyu, Director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration of China, who led a delegation to attend the meeting and delivered a general speech by video, introduced the latest development of China's intellectual property cause.

In September 2021, China released the Outline for Building a Strong Intellectual Property Country (2021-2035), which made significant top-level designs for the development of the intellectual property industry in the next 15 years. On February 5, 2022, China joined the Hague Agreement on International Registration of Industrial Designs and the Marrakesh Treaty on Copyright. "This fully reflects China's firm stance in supporting multilateralism, further expanding opening-up, and continuously strengthening intellectual property protection, continuously optimizing the business and innovation environment," said Shen Changyu.

According to the latest data from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, by the end of June 2022, there were 325000 enterprises with valid invention patents in China, up 20.3% year on year; The number of valid invention patents owned is 2.107 million, a year-on-year increase of 22.0%, which is 4.5 percentage points higher than the national average growth rate. Among them, there are 155000 high-tech enterprises and specialized and innovative "little giant" enterprises, with 1.334 million effective invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 23.4%, accounting for 47.8% of domestic enterprises and generating 63.3% of effective invention patents, maintaining strong innovation vitality.

At the same time, China's patent reserves in emerging technology fields have also been further strengthened. According to Hu Wenhui, Deputy Director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, as of the end of June 2022, the top three technology fields in the number of effective invention patents in China are computer technology, measurement and digital communication, accounting for 9.4%, 7.6% and 6.8% of the total respectively; The top three areas of growth were information technology management methods, computer technology, and medical technology, with year-on-year increases of 78.5%, 32.3%, and 27.1%, respectively. The enhancement of patent reserves in emerging technology fields has supported the digital transformation of the economy and society, and also improved the health and well-being of the people.

Regarding the relevant affairs under the WIPO framework, Shen Changyu called on WIPO member states to demonstrate more spirit of unity and cooperation in the complex and ever-changing international situation, adhere to the principle of consultation and consensus, and properly handle issues of common concern; Countries continue to work together to advance the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; Continue to improve the WIPO global intellectual property service system, incorporating Chinese and other official languages of the United Nations into the Madrid and Hague systems; Further improve the supervision and audit system of WIPO.
